Children’s Dentistry in Jackson Heights

Children’s Dentistry

One of the keys to having healthy teeth as an adult is to have healthy teeth as a child. At Smile Dental Group in Jackson Heights, we hold children’s dental health in high regard. We know that by keeping a child’s teeth in good shape, we’re helping them have good dental health as adults.

As a parent, you should look for children’s dentistry near you. Taking your child to the dentist can help detect problems and treat them at an early stage. Even if you don’t notice anything wrong and your child isn’t complaining, you should still bring them in regularly.

Regular Exams

At Smile Dental Group, we can see children for regular exams and cleanings. During these visits, we check for early signs of trouble and interfere. During cleanings, we remove plaque and tartar from children’s teeth. This helps prevent gingivitis and periodontitis.

Adults need to visit their dentist twice a year. This varies in children. There’s no specific number but we can tell you how soon we need to see your child after assessing their dental status. Besides cleanings, these visits are important as they help us diagnose overcrowded teeth, overbite, and other common dental issues in children.

Dental Sealants and Fluoride Treatments

Premolars and molars start to erupt in children around the age of 6. These teeth naturally have notches and grooves in them. Bacteria like to use these grooves to hide from toothpaste and to grow. We can use composite resin to seal these grooves and prevent bacteria from using them as a shelter. Your child will need multiple dental sealant applications as more molars and premolars erupt.

Fluoride treatments are great for strengthening teeth and putting a stop to ongoing decay. We realize that fluoride is now present in most types of toothpaste but the concentration of fluoride in these procedures is much higher. It’s calculated based on weight and age.

Adults can get dental sealants and fluoride treatments too. These procedures, however, are more important in children. To schedule a visit for children’s dentistry services, get in touch with us.
