Extraction in Jackson Heights

Extractions

We want everyone who visits our dental office to keep their teeth for as long as humanly possible. After all, your teeth are supposed to last you a lifetime. Unfortunately, there are instances when a tooth needs to go. Where there is no way of saving a tooth, or where a tooth poses a threat to the well-being of the other teeth, an extraction is necessary.

Here at Smile Dental Group, we provide surgical and non-surgical extraction in Jackson Heights. Our dental team is friendly and will welcome you with a smile. We have designed our offices to feel safe and welcoming, even for first-time visitors. We have also established various measures, including offering the option of sedation to ensure you feel relaxed during your treatment.

When Do You Need Dental Extraction?

Nobody likes to lose a tooth—at least most people don’t. Unfortunately, there are instances when a tooth extraction is inevitable. Our dentists in Jackson Heights may recommend extraction in the following situations:

  • Your tooth is damaged beyond repair.
  • If your teeth are crowded and you require orthodontic treatment, extraction is usually necessary.
  • A milk tooth that is in the way of a permanent tooth may require extraction.
  • Painful, impacted wisdom teeth need to be removed by a dentist.
  • If you are about to undergo chemotherapy or an organ transplant, our dentist may recommend the removal of a tooth that poses a high risk of infection.

Surgical and Non-Surgical Extractions

Our dentists near you perform two types of extraction—surgical and non-surgical. Non-surgical extractions are performed on erupted teeth, while surgical extractions are reserved for impacted teeth or teeth that are below the gum line.

During a non-surgical extraction, our dentist elevates the tooth using a dental elevator and then grabs and pulls the tooth from its socket using dental forceps.

In the case of surgical extractions, our dentists make an incision in your gum tissue to access the impacted tooth.

For both types of extractions, we use anesthesia to ensure the patient’s comfort. If you’re feeling anxious, you may opt for sedation during these procedures.
